"Unique Clover Leaf Carriage"
You aren't logged in!
All four hub caps are marked "C.P. Kimball & Co. Chicago". Full fifth wheel gear. Rare and unique carriage with four passenger seats with spindles. Raised driver's seat also has matching spindles.
History: The Tonneau Sociable carriage has four rear seats arranged in a clover leaf shape with elegant spindles. Also called a Tour-neau Sociable from 1904 print history. By the end of the nineteenth century (late 1800's), the sociable was commonly used as a ladies summer carriage and was either owner-driven or coachman driven. A standout going to town, to social events or to the park.
All of the difficult work of restoration is complete! Fifth wheel gear has been primed, wood completely replaced in the wheels. Most of the carriage is new wood; only the back four seats are the original wood. A small amount of the original upholstery is still there to use as a pattern for when this exquisite piece gets the finishing touches of restoration.
Height to top of driver's seat is 83". Widest point from hub to hub is 68". Height to the top of the toe board is 60". Overall length is 11 feet.
Would look stunning behind a team of Drafts, Draft Crosses, Friesians, Dutch Harness or even Hackneys.
Sure to be the most elegant and unusual carriage for all types of presentations, shows, weddings, parades or carriage rides.
NOTE: This carriage is in storage at zip code 54665.
